Bottom Line

The HOKA Speedgoat 6s have plush, responsive midsoles that cushion feet and absorb impacts beautifully, making them ideal for rough trails. They also feature a spacious toe box and a robust lug pattern for excellent traction, while their breathable, quick-drying uppers keep feet cool and comfortable.

Even though the foam soles might wear out quicker than some more durable options, and the pronounced dovetail heel might require an adjustment period, Speedgoat 6 remains a top choice for hikers prioritizing comfort and traction. Thanks to their outstanding support and unmatched cushioning, they stood up well to countless miles on steep Tahoe trails and tricky scrambles in the high alpine. Plus, their bright colors are a nice touch. For those who value comfort, traction, and performance on their hikes, we still consider them the top choice amongst the best women’s hiking shoes.

Comfort

The Hoka Speedgoat 6 delivers comfort that lasts mile after mile. The thick, cushioned midsole offers excellent shock absorption on rugged trails, and even after long runs and exhausting trails in the Tahoe region, our feet felt supported and protected. The snug fit provides a secure feel without being restrictive, and the roomy toe box prevents any discomfort or cramping, making it a standout shoe for support and comfort.

Traction

Traction is where the Speedgoat 6 truly shines. The Vibram Megagrip outsole with 5mm lugs provided rock-solid confidence on everything from loose gravel to muddy paths. Whether tackling steep inclines or technical descents, they never felt like they were slipping, even on wet surfaces. The grip is dependable and performs just as well on fast flats as on tricky and slippery terrain.

Weight

The Speedgoat 6’s reduced weight makes a noticeable difference on the trail. At just 1.04 pounds per pair, they feel lighter and more responsive than the previous model, providing an extra boost on longer runs and hikes. We don’t find that the lightweight build compromises on stability, making them ideal for those looking to cover distance quickly without sacrificing comfort or support.

Durability

The Speedgoat 6’s woven upper makes it more robust than previous models. After miles of wear, the shoes held up impressively against abrasive surfaces, and the minimal damage to the upper was promising. Unlike other lightweight shoes that break down quickly, these have been designed for the long haul.

Weather Resistance

The Speedgoat 6 holds up well in most weather conditions, though breathability could be better in extreme heat. The shoes dried quickly in wet or muddy conditions and kept our feet from feeling bogged down. While they’re not fully waterproof, they handle light moisture well, making them a solid choice, even in mixed conditions.

Should You Buy the Hoka Speedgoat 6?

For those who value comfort and foot support above all else, the HOKA Speedgoat 6 is the way to go. They are a great blend of durability and comfort and have trustworthy traction. While they aren’t as robust as some other shoes on our best women’s hiking shoes list, we often wear them on longer trips when comfort over a long day and lightness are priorities.

What Other Women’s Hiking Shoes Should You Consider?

Topo Ultraventure 3: The Topo Ultraventure 3s are a great option if you’re looking for something lightweight and breathable with excellent grip. They blend the cushioning of the Speedgoats with a natural foot shape similar to the Altra Lone Peaks. They’re perfect for long hikes on established paths but might feel a bit unstable off-trail.

Merrell MQM 3: If a hiking shoe and an approach shoe made a child, the Merrell MQM 3 would be its offspring. They provide a snug yet roomy fit with great traction on rocky steeps. Their cushy soles make them ideal for mountainous trails.

Saucony Peregrine 14 Review: The Saucony Peregrine 14s are our go-to for lightweight trail running. They offer exceptional traction and breathability, making them perfect for high-mileage backpacking trips. Despite their lightweight design, they may not be as durable as heavier models, but are excellent for reducing foot fatigue and blisters.
